Is this really a Six Organs Of Admittance record? Really? I mean come on! The opening Actaeon's Fall (Against The Hounds), sounds like it was made for a fantasy role-playing game by a prog-obsessed geek in his basement apartment. The cheesy flute and overall tone of the track still makes me cringe and frown every time I hear it. I've tried, I've tried many times... but I simply can't stand it. So you can understand my near panic when Anesthesia came along and I heard that flute again. All I could think was "no, please Ben no!", my mind began to rush, further confused by the artist's odd Orbison-like croon. Even Bar-Nasha's raga tones had that mild Dead Can Dance quality to it. Struggling through the whole album twice, I realized that the Tim Hecker inspired Cover Your Wounds With The Sky, a filler track, was the only tune I actually enjoyed. This was it, this was the Chasny album I would hate. I mean it's got whale songs on it (Ursa Minor)! |
