This was one of my many presents for my birthday in 2008. Goatflower is a limited (100 copies only) tour-only CD-R and is one of the noisiest works I've yet to hear from Chasny. The first track is basically loud grating noises which I could easily have mistaken for a mid-period Merzbow tune if I didn't already know what it was. On II, a familiar middle-eastern tinged acoustic guitar raga plays on and on as the earlier grating noises slowly fade in, sounding like a broken amp or a busted shortwave radio, to give the tune that extra nasty vibe. III starts off on a similar note before the fuzz solo from hell suddenly breaks loose for the remainder of the track, the notes seeping through your ears and into your brain, making it sizzle like bacon on a pan. IV is the strangest and longest track here. It is basically multiple tracks of what sounds like an oud, being layered repeatedly over each other until it sounds more like a harpsichord than the original instrument. |
