This is yet another of the six tapes I have found on eBay near the end of 2009 (along with Overcast, Alienation, Fluid, Transmogrification and Transfusions). Rundowns features four long free form psychedelic noise compositions but is much mellower overall than some of the artist's later works. Atmospheric drones flow like waves as washes of guitar feedback and strange modified kitchen equipment is used as sole purveyors of rhythm. Fans of Throbbing Gristle's more ambient side will adore this one. These four tracks are really meant to lift your spirits up and away; rarely does the noise become so intrusive as to break the mood. Type Two is especially haunting in this regard, as is Type Three with it's bizarre delayed guitar hits and mysterious noises. Rundowns is easily one of the most accessible Omit records out there and the perfect introduction to this wonderful artist's strange sound world. If only it this were still available... |
