Distinct melodies shape up on Intonomancy, this is something I did not appreciate on earlier releases like Sticks And Stones, but things are different here; I still feel as if this is the NNCK sound, you can see the music. It can feel like sitting down on a dusty sofa in a loft, stoned out of your mind, your body and spirit totally relaxed and hovering around the room with the music (Witch), smoking a hukkha in an iraqi coffee shop, lost in the thick gray cloud and the language (This Absent-Minded Crisis?) or feeling incredibly drowsy, almost nauseous, your eyes closed, trying to keep the feeling away (Fuck No. - which is actually my favorite track on this record with it's lovely use of a cellular phone as an extra musical instrument). On The Shepherd Takes A Shine To The Abyss, the band embraces once again it's krautrock influences (are those traces of Agitation Free I hear?). |
