Yet another show I missed due to the fact that I moved back to Canada a week too late (the NNCK performance, also from the 2006 FIMAV, is the other one)! The Opalio brother's music seems to get more interesting with each new release; their choice of sounds and drones is much more varied now and their obsession with space and cosmology comes through louder and clearer. It's as austere as it has always been, but instead of being repelled by it's coldness (like on Out Of The Blue... Into The White), I find myself being drawn into their vortex-like soundscapes. This could very well be the soundtrack to being marooned in space. The first part of this performance is simply incredible, one of my favorites pieces by the group so far. You'll have to wait almost ten minutes into the track to hear what got me so excited however, but when it starts, prepare yourselves for an ethereal experience.
