Originally released as part of the 4CD compilation Driftworks, Nuuk finally gets it's own deluxe re-issue. I've never felt let down by any of Köner's works and this one is no exception. In keeping with the artist's fascination with all things cold, austere and wintry, this album is centered around Greenland's capital of Nuuk; a city of just over 15000 inhabitants. Although the city has a moderate polar climate, the music on the album is of the bleakest and darkest kind. Each track feels like gigantic gusts of arctic winds engulfing everyone and everything in it's path during those long dark winter nights; the snow flying at dizzying speeds under the city's few street lights. Music as fascinating and impressive as natural occurences!? Now that's saying quite a lot! The album comes with an audio/visual work simply entitled Nuuk Suite which reprises the album's music along with time lapsed images of Nuuk's static webcam. Beautiful, magnificent work as always.
