This album is your basic Jandek album. He might break out of the mold on occasions, but he always comes back to this sound at one point or another. What you get is Jandek playing solo guitar (in this case it's acoustic) while he "sings" nonchalantly over the open-string plucking. There is very little change between the songs, they have no beginning or end and they can't be associated with any style of music (blues or rock for example). It's "limbo" music, it's just there, beyond any timeframe or reference. It's Jandek at his most unpleasant, gloomy and pure. The music is very unwelcoming and one couldn't be blamed for not liking it. I myself have difficulty with these albums and this one's no exception. Jandek's love for the delay pedal also begins on this album. Almost everything he records gets the delay treatment. Slightly more psychedelic then others and most definitely depressing. |
