This album is on par with Foreign Keys. Nancy sings on half of it and the drums are all over the place yet again. In fact, on Ace Of Diamonds, they nauseously travel right and left at dizzying speeds while Jandek's vocals are buried in reverb. The album dabbles into psychedelic realms more then we are used to. There's a hippy-trippy vibe in Governor Rhodes ("Celebrate our love! Celebrate our magic!"). It's all great fun however, lots of distorted vocals (a lot of screaming actually) and blasts of harmonica (Star Up In The Sky). It also includes the all-time classic Painted Your Teeth where Jandek seems to threaten someone's life if he/she paints their teeth (!?). He's got a knife! On the very next track he celebrates mothers while reading from what sounds like different Mother's Day cards. And what a great abrupt ending to the album, it sounds like the tape disintegrates at the last second. Strange. |
