The cover makes it pretty clear that drums are involved somewhere on this album. After seven albums and only a few songs with drums, Jandek decided to include them on almost every song on this one. So if you're like me and prefer Jandek in a "group" setting, then this one is a great one. Whoever it is playing (John? Jandek? 3 trained monkeys?), this person is going totally ape (no pun intended) over the set. Cromagnon drumming + half-assed electric guitar riffs = pretty fucking wild music! The closest thing to a legitimate rock album yet for Jandek and I believe it's the first time he plays electric guitar after sticking exclusively to the acoustic guitar. Great versions of European Jewel , one of them sans drums. Same Road sounds like a failed attempt at playing the blues. On the CD version, Birthday has some pretty nasty digital distortion throughout the song. |
