Another good example of a "basic" Jandek album (solo guitar). The harmonica might show up a few times, but it remains a very sparse affair. What makes this album more interesting then Twelfth Apostle and Glad To Get Away (other "basic" Jandek albums) is the fact that this one maintains a certain level of quality throughout. Even if some parts are tougher to get through, the album never really gets boring. It's minimal as hell, practically no percussion, plenty of tape hiss, yet there is a palpable tension in the songs which was absent from the aforementioned albums. Plus you've got another one of his (now) trademark sudden endings to the album. If you're interested in digging deep into the Jandek sound, I would suggest checking this one out even before other "basic" Jandek albums like Staring and Living In A Moon So Blue. It's a tough but worthwhile ride. |
