This is the bluesy sister album to You Walk Alone. Not easy to describe a Jandek album without comparing it to others since most of the time, only small details make it possible to tell them apart. I love the fact that the two first tracks on this album have the exact same guitar riff. And who is this barely audible singing voice on the last four tracks? It sure doesn't sound like Nancy from the earlier albums. Could Jandek have found himself a new sweetheart to share his recording moments with? There's a great Nico vibe to these last tracks and they pretty much single-handedly make the album worthwhile as the rest of the album is standard fare. Much of the intensity found on earlier album is absent here. I'd also like to reinstate how similar Jandek's voice is to Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore (it is very apparent on some of the tracks found here). |
