What to make of this one? If you agreed with me when I said Twelfth Apostle was a tough, unwelcoming album, well, hold on to your hats. This one is even more difficult to appreciate. The sound is getting more and more minimal; to the point where it almost disappears and you forget there's music playing. It's so sparse and slow that when the delay finally shows up for two tracks on Van Ness Mission and Anticipation or the harmonica on Plenty, your brain can almost show signs of life again... almost! This is probably my least favorite album in all of Jandek's discography. It's just too gloomy and it pushes me into a semi-comatose state every time. Where other albums could catch my attention, this one just disappears off the radar after a few minutes and never comes back. I would like to find out if the song Nancy Knows has anything to do with the singing Nancy of earlier albums.
