It was the harmonica that blew the listener away on Later On, but on Jandek's fourth album, it's the drums that cause all the damage. Listening to European Jewel (some sort of loose group adaptation of the "incomplete" version from Ready For The House ) always puts a smile on my face. This is totally whacked out and aggressive. I could be mistaken, but it sure sounds like Jandek is joined by a bassist and drummer on this one. This album also contains an absolute classic in his discography: Nancy Sings, where, for the first time, a woman (his girlfriend at the time?) sings instead of him. And it sounds great... Too bad they broke up later on. "You're a nut! You're a NUT!"
