Nancy's gone! And Jandek is sad. Maybe he scared her off with his last couple of albums which were gradually getting weirder and wilder. I Passed By Your Building sure sounds like a self-pitying break-up song done à la Jandek. He's dropped the electric guitar and sticks to acoustic for the whole album. His voice has lowered a notch on many of the tracks (probably due to all the recent screaming). It is sometimes more passionate (due to the recent break up?) and always behind a wall of reverb for that extra eerie atmosphere. Some of the songs are blues inflected (Down At The Ball Park), but most fall into the somber and gloomy kind. For you who enjoy his use of the harmonica, Harmonica is five and a half minutes of just that. One Minute is the only song with drums and Part II is just... well... it just is! Considered a classic by many, I personally can't say I think it's better then the last four. |
