Fluxion
I never thought I would ever see another Greek artist find his/her way into my record collection other than Iannis Xenakis (well, perhaps Demis Roussos might show up one day - seriously). I had totally forgotten about the origins of Fluxion (aka Konstantinos Soublis - can't get "greeker" than that!) and yet I had previously owned all three albums he had released on CD. This was back when I was obsessed with the whole minimal electronica scene. I would buy almost everything I could from labels such as Kompakt, Mille Plateaux and my favorite: Chain Reaction (and Basic Channel while we're at it). To think that at one point I had every single CD release from that label just breaks my heart. Now all these CDs go for ridiculous sums of money on the internet, so when I saw Vibrant Forms for sale for only twelve bucks (and with the cover not all beaten up and worn), needless to say I jumped on the occasion. Fluxion was one of the biggest names on the Chain Reaction label and with good cause. This is one of the early examples of truly minimal and extremely moody techno music. If it weren't for the distant four-four beat, this would simply be another (dark) ambient artist. One could actually dance to this music if one were so inclined. I can only imagine what this might be like at extremely high volumes in a packed house, with a hectic light show, the heat, the smoke... the MDMA! I think I would explode from orgasmic tensions. It's amazing what one can do with a bit of reverb and a touch of dub!
