Father Murphy

National Flag

From northern Italy comes Father Murphy, a strange church-obsessed trio who bring some of the quirkiest progrock I've heard in a while. Imagine yourselves the unlikely cross between Godspeed You! Black Emperor's gloomy chamber rock, The Residents' schizophrenic nursery rhyme pop tunes, and with a touch of that trebly new wave Devo sound (but with none of the attitude and funk) and you've got a fair idea of what to expect from Father Murphy. There's a certain naivety to their music which might be off-putting at times, but more often than not, the three manage to gel their sound into something completely magical and new. It might take time to adjust to the rough edges, but stay with Father Murphy, follow his word, and you will be assured a place in pop heaven.
