Dettinger
Olaf Dettinger has had the honor of being the first artist to get a full length solo album on the very influential Kompakt label from Cologne, Germany and which is home to other noteworthy artists such as Klimek, Wolfgang Voigt (the label's founder) and Markus Guentner just to name a few. So his album, Intershop, was the world's first glimpse at a whole new rethinking of electronic music. Based in ambient music, but relying heavily on subtle beats, Dettinger's music was our first taste of what was to become known as "pop ambient". The composer's songs are often too rhythmic to become soporific, yet they will always succeed in putting you in a trance. As is the case with other pioneering artists from the Kompakt label, Dettinger has released very few recordings, but the ones that are out there are very much worth hunting down.
