If you love the whole Wolf Eyes community sound, then Futures is for you. Let's not fool ourselves, this could easily have been a Wolf Eyes, nothing really distinguishes Dead Machines from it's parent project. It pretty much all sounds the same, yet, somehow, none of it ever sounds boring. No matter how incredibly fucked up some of these songs might be, they always manage to sound completely out-of-this-world. None of the track son Futures has a title, yet all of them seem to have a little back story or at least they manage to conjure up bizarre images in the listener's mind. It's all very hallucinatory; not soothing in any way, this does remain some truly harsh noise music, but it's so completely fried it's bound to make anyone react. Not a single miss on the record, the first track alone would warrant the purchase of the whole CD. Futures was my first taste of Dead Machines' work and I can guarantee it won't be the last. |
