With such a title for an album, you can only expect the music within to sound as massive and life-giving/destroying as our planet's magmatic core. It's a big challenge to try and convey such magnificent atmosphere through sound, my own expectations were high, but I'm happy to report that The Very Heart Of The World doesn't disappoint. The opening Benjamin is as close to witnessing a biblical Big Bang as we can get. The track features a killer drone which just might destroy your speakers. Once those creepy vocals come in towards the end of the track, it's like hearing the Universe taking shape as God creates the cosmos and the planets with the tap of his fingertips. Nyarlathotep is a strange sound cut-up which feels like a quick visit at a drive-in highway diner. The last two tracks are more drone compositions which sound as huge and dangerous as Hermann Nitsch's musical work for his "orgies". Sparks can fly when music is this dense. |
