Burning Star Core
Finally! It's about time some Burning Star Core made it's way into my collection. After all the artist's numerous associations with other bands I've enjoyed throughout the years, I'm surprised it took so long. I must admit though that seeing how his body of work was growing by the second did discourage me from diving in right away. It was only years later, when I found a copy of his Bright Summer Day LP (which I erroneously thought was extremely rare) for cheap that I opted to get my first taste. Believe it or not. I've been reading up on this artist for years now, but never once heard a single album until my first purchase. I almost got to see the artist live at some noise fest concert a few years back along with The Hototogisu, but I found out that same night that the artist wasn't able to make his way across the Canadian border. Crap!
Burning Star Core is basically the work of C. Spencer Yeh, the new millennium's answer to Tony Conrad, John Cale and the whole Dream Syndicate gang and the reincarnation of Takehisa Kosugi on cocaine. His work is often drone-based, but can sometimes fall into much harsher electronic noise territory and even sound poetry. Each new album seems to find Yeh exploring new ideas and concepts with almost Fluxus-like glee. I'm still relatively new to the artist's work, but I love what I'm hearing so expect more on the way.
