This was, without a doubt, one of the best albums of 2003. It's incredible how this band can include so many fucked up elements in a pop tune frame; it threatens to overflow with weirdness at any moment, yet it never does... leaving way to a wave of pure pleasure. The constant clattering, rumbling and gushing of feedback on Colour Me In, the weird metallic noises of my favorite track Pendulum or the bizarre distortion on Man Is Not A Bird are just a few examples. Another highlight from the album is the magical Valerie; if you are at all familiar with the czech movie it hails, you will immediately notice that the melody is directly lifted from the film's main theme. Another favorite would have to be the bubbly Lunch Hour Pops with it's colorful melodies and sunny atmosphere. Although not every tune is a pop gem (yes! some of them are actually too weird to be catchy), there is not a single boring track to be found on Haha Sound. A must have.
