Black Moth Super Rainbow
They might have one of the worst band names I've heard since Rainbow Butt Monkey, but thankfully the Pennsylvania natives make up for it artistically. Like a genetically engineered cross between Boards Of Canada's nostalgia-inducing sound, Add N To (X)'s unruly brand of gritty electro-pop-noise and Air's more psychedelic moments, Black Moth Super Rainbow have gone on to become the latest craze of the indie electronic scene. But labeling the band simply as a new electronic sensation wouldn't be doing this music any justice. Behind the break beats and old school synths, the band often incorporate elements from many different sources: from 60's psychedelic hippie folk touches to Perrey & Kingsley-esque electro-kitsch bleeps and bonks, to lo-fi punk beats. I was pretty late in jumping on the bandwagon with this band, the name turning me off for the longest time, but being a huge Boards Of Canada, it was practically impossible for me not to start listening to them at one point.
